My Cub In Otter Lake
Not what you want to see when your plane is not on floats. The wind blew it from the tie-down over a 25 " bank.
Getting It Out
It was amazing that the "cub" flew the next day after the wind settled. I run the engine and changed the oil twice. The rudder had to be repaired on the bottom but that was all. "God was watching out for me." This is really a "Super Cub".
Otter Lake Strip
This is the strip at the Otter Lake base camp. Tony Lee built it in 1985 and I used it from 1987 to 2005.

Big Bend Lake
A beautiful photo of Big Bend Lake in our Wrangell Mountain area.
I have just returned from a black bear hunt in the Grand View area. We would take our Folboats or whatever small boats we had and cross Upper Trail Lake and go as far as we could and then walk 10 miles or so down the tracks to hunt black bears or goats. See "Hunting Black Bears."

Recovered Brown Bear
This was a special time when Mark Confer and I went to help Steve Lanphier try to recover Don Renard's big Western Alaska boar. The bear died looking out of the alder while Steve was bent down trying to look into the dark alder. It was to dark so Steve backed out and came back to camp. This was the next morning. Success! What Guides Sometimes Do

One of the hard things we had to do before we started our spring bear hunts in Western Alaska was dig out the tents. Dan is moving items into the tent after digging out the door-way. See "Spring Brown Bear Hunting In Western Alaska."

I harvested this 6x6 elk with Dan Artery in WY. I went on three different elk hunts with Dan and had a blast. I passed on a few bigger than this guy and saw a couple really dandy elk but they were always on the wrong side of the fence. This guy scored 293 B&C.
I shot this beautiful 5x5 whitetail while hunting with Dan Artery south of Wheatland, WY. He grossed 151 B&C. Dan is a great guide and we always had a blast.
